Burns Night 2009

Over 60 people crowded into St. Mungo's Church Hall for the 250th anniversary of Rabbie Burns. In addition to the traditional Burns Supper of haggis neeps and tatties there was entertainment led by MC Sandy Robertson, who also toasted the Lassies. The Rev Dr. John Stevenson recited Immortal Men, and 11 of the congregation presented a rendition of "The Broons"

The format of the evening started with a welcome and the Selkirk Grace:-

Some hae meat and canna eat
and some wad eat that want it
but we hae meat and we can eat
and sae the Lord be thankit

Followed by:

  • Piping in the Haggis
    Vic Ramage

  • Address to the Haggis
    Sandy Robertson
  • Toast to the Haggis
  • Haggis piped out
    Vic Ramage

Then the gathering got stuck into the meal of Haggis wi’ bashit neeps and champit tatties, followed by a
Tipsy Laird (Trifle), and finished of with Biscuits/Oatcakes and cheese, Coffee and Tea

The Vote of Thanks and Auld Lang Syne completed a great evening
