The culmination of Easter week activities among the four Penicuik Churches,
North, South, St. James the Less and St. Mungo's was the celebration of the
resurrection on Easter Sunday, 8th April.
Continuing the tradition of several years, all four churches gather in the St.
Mungo's churchyard at 5.45am around the old St. Kentigern Church. This year we
gathered around the entrance to St. Kentigern, which appropriately for the
Easter story has no door.
Those who managed the early rise were reminded of the Easter resurrection story
before heading to Broomhill for the sunrise at 6.30am.
With only a few clouds on the horizon we were treated to a new day and the
celebration of a risen Christ. The North Kirk young people took to Castlelaw to
greet the dawn following a "sleep over" at their church.
St. James the Less put on a full English breakfast after the event for all the
worshippers, in their warm and friendly church hall.
Each of the Churches held Holy Communion later in the morning and St. Mungo's
had the added feature of a baptism.
The church was filled with daffodils when Ruby Agnes Sprott, daughter to Jenny
and Alisdair was welcomed into the Christian Church, with brother John and
sister Charlie, both keen Sunday School members, being there to help.
Grandmother Caroline supplied water from the river Jordan, collected on a recent
visit to the Holy Land.
The communion service was followed by coffee in the church hall, extending the
hand of fellowship at this important time in the Christian calendar.
