Girls Brigade Colours Decommisioned - 23 August 2009

 
The colours of the 42nd Edinburgh and Lothians Girl's Brigade Company were decommisioned at the service on Sunday 23rd August 2009. The Rev. Dr. John Stevenson accepted the colours on behalf of the Company from Brigade Captain Elizabeth Purves.

The Company were forced to close in September 2008 due to lack of volunteers coming forward to help with the running of the Company.

The decommissioned colours with Captains past and present

The 42nd Edinburgh & Lothians Company was affiliated to St Mungo's Parish Church, Penicuik on 16th December 1967. The captain at that time was Mrs A Kirk and there were 6 other Lieutenants, 58 Juniors and 45 Explorers. Mrs Kirk remained captain until the year ending 31 March 1970.

Mrs Irene Kewell was captain from March 1971 to 1974, and was assisted by 2 other Lieutenants. The company membership was 33 Explorers, 22 Juniors and 11 Seniors.

From 1973 until 1993 the Captain was Mrs Elizabeth McMillan.

From 1993 to 1998 the Captain was Mrs Roberta Tweedale and from 1998 to 2008 when the Company closed, the Captain was Mrs Elizabeth Purves.
