Millennium Project

To celebrate the new millennium, St Mungo's received a facelift. A new paved front area incorporating the millennium cross was completed in August 2001.

Several designs were submitted by local craftsmen and the best was selected by a small committee setup in late 1999.

Fundraising took place through 2000 with bring and buy stalls, flower shows, and a "sponsor a stone" which allowed everyone to donate £5 toward a stone of their choice. Though not individually marked, each person selected their own stone from a plan containing all 635 stones.

The Rev. W. Irving blessed the project on completion and it is hoped the new front will add to the character of Penicuik, and be a constant reminder of St.Mungo's move into the new millenium for future generations.
