Ron
was born in Nova Scotia
Canada. He holds BA and BEd University degrees from Canadian Universities, and a
BD from Trinity College Glasgow. His early work experience was in school (modern
language teaching and guidance work). He also had experience in Canada as a
student pastor and lay missionary.
After completing his BD in Glasgow, and serving for one
year as assistant at Cathcart Old Parish Church Glasgow, he was ordained at
Falkirk Presbytery in 1979, serving then for 7 years as minister to Falkirk; St. Modens. He has served a further 18 years as Associate minister in the united
congregation of Falkirk: Old and St. Modens.
Ron's Vision and Concerns
Many of the Church Without Walls ideas and concerns I
feel are very much where God is calling his Church today. They hark back to the
basics of being Christ's Church, and empower us to let go of some of the baggage
that is stifling our witness.
I am looking for a pilgrim Church, a family of disciples
who are on a faith journey, courageous enough to step into the unknown,
sometimes risky territory, because they are following the Lord Jesus Christ.
This may require the learning of new methods or styles and welcoming all sorts
of people, some who will be very different, even difficult, some who will teach
us much about love. The journey may sometimes be painful. Mistakes will be made,
but the lessons learned will be powerful. It may involve letting go of cherished
symbols or reshaping them. Because we are an Easter people we have the power to
step out of the tomb - or anything that holds us back; to blossom into our own
calling of mission, service and worship because we are God's people.
