Penicuik Cenotaph

Remembrance Service 2007

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month fell on a Sunday in 2007, the first time since 2001, signalling the end of hostilities in World War One in 1918.

Each year since this "war to end all wars" which has sadly proven so pitifully wrong, we celebrate those who gave their lives and those disabled by the ravages of WW1, WW2 and in all theatres of war since, including casualties of today's hostilities in foreign lands.

St. Mungo's, as the Parish Church for Penicuik, hosts the Service of Remembrance each year and this year we created a video of the highlights of the service.

The 10 minute video includes the piped arrival for the British Legion, Army and RAF Cadets, Girl Guides, Council members, and VIP's for the Presentation of the Colours. The eulogy is read by parade commander Mr J.MacLean. Last Post and Reveille is played by buglers Daniel Williamson and Caren Bryce of Penicuik Silver Band. The lessons are read by Lord Lieutenant Mr John McCulloch D.L., and Drew Pender. The National Anthem is played before the Colour Party exit and the parade make their way to the Cenotaph for the laying of wreaths.

The Rev Sandy Young led the service in St. Mungo's, and the Rev. John Fraser led the Cenotaph wreath laying service.
