Between
Tuesday 23rd and Thursday 25th June 2009 vandals got into the
Church hall garden and destroyed the wooden gazebo along with the
wooden windbreak. They then attempted to set fire to the wood in
the decorative lamp standard, which was recovered from a previous
refurbishment of St. Mungos.
Betty and Jim Macmillan, who look after all the gardens and flower
displays around the Church and Hall, had been working in the
garden on Tuesday 23rd. When they returned on Thursday 25th they
were confronted with the damage. Previously the garden was
overlooked by most of the flats in Imrie Place, but the building
of the new supermarket has interrupted their view.
They
also unsuccessfully tried to break into the Church Hall boiler
house, leaving a rather fine footprint on the boiler house door.
The police have been informed, and debris left by the vandals was
found on site.
