Rev William Brown led the St Mungo's
Remembrance service on Sunday 14th of November. The congregation was
swelled with the members of the British Legion, Army Cadets, Air
Cadets, Boys Brigade, Girl Guides, Red Cross, and members of the
Council. This years Hunter and Lass also took part. Music was
provided by Penicuik Silver Band
Representing the Queen was the Deputy Lord Lieutenant
Major J.H. Callander, accompanied by Lady Clerk.
The readings were taken from James 4:1-6 (Wars come
from man's lower nature) read by Robert Jarmson of the Community
Council, and Romans 13:1-10 (Those who maintain law and order in
society are honoured by God) read by Major J.H.Callander. In
Flanders field the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are
the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take
up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
~Major John McCrae, May 1915.~
