Love Russia Burns Supper Ceilidh

Burns Night Ceilidh - 28 January

The Love Russia Burns Night Ceilidh on Saturday night January 28th was the place to be for a great evening of entertainment and dancing to the music of Ceilidh band Fantoosh, plus of course the traditional haggis and neeps to keep out the cold.

Around 150 ticket holders turned up for the event, to a reception glass of champagne or orange on arrival.

Love Russia CEO and International Director Alex Cooke and Deputy Executive Officer and wife Jacqui Cooke, joined the Ceilidh with Development Officer Debbie Bradley.

Sandy Robertson, known to most as the St. Mungo’s Session clerk, also does a good Chic Murray impression. He also knows his Burns, and presented the Tribute to the bard himself, as well as the address to the Haggis. Peter Middleton piped the haggis in, and provided a selection of tunes whilst the haggis was “cut up with ready slicht.”

Graham McDonald led the Fantoosh Ceilidh band whose music got folks on to the floor after the feast for a few “skirls” around the Craigiebield House Hotel hall.

Organisers Ann and Andrew Dunsire, who are also the Scottish Representatives for Love Russia would like to say a big thank you so much for the pants and £1's and also other donations given to the Love Russia Appeal, so very kind of everyone, and to all who attended the ceilidh and brought home baking with them and supported the event.  We appreciate all your contributions and support so much. Over £800 was raised for Love Russia and lots and lots of pants!  Thank you so much.'

Ann and Andrew will be heading east later this year to eastern Estonia, right next to the Russian border for Love Russia. Estonia used to be part of Russia until 1918 when it gained independence. We will follow their visit in later issues of the Mungo Messenger

Alex and Debbie are travelling to Russia on Sunday Feb 5th to visit orphanages and some of the foster parents in the St Petersburg area. Please pray for them as the weather there is very cold and travelling can be very hard in such conditions.
