Time for a story and songs

New Year  Messy Church - 13 January

The first meeting of the Messy Church for 2013 took place in a warm church hall , beating cold snow  outside. The theme for the afternoon was  ’Who is God’ ?

A series of messy crafts  started the activities, with :

Painted flowers
- Making a framed flower picture using sponges, brushes or fingers!

Seed picture
- Making  pictures from seeds, grains & lentils of  something you would find in a garden.

Play-dough creations
- Think of God as the creator.  See if you can create a creature that’s never been seen before.

Night sky collage - Help to create a night time sky scene using glitter, chalk & paint.

Day time collage - Help to create a day time scene.  Think about all the things God has created.

Junk spaceship - Make a huge Messy Church spaceship using cardboard boxes & lots of tin foil!
                                                             Rocket Ship ready to launch
Spinners - Come and create your own spinning planet.

Food creatures - Using cocktail sticks, sweets, fruit & vegetables, make a Messy food creature.

Scavenger hunt in the garden
- Something bendy, something round, something green & something brown……..

After getting completely ‘messed up’ it was time for Song Time and Story Time. Graham McDonald played the piano while the children and parents sang along and followed the actions.

The family prayer box was also available, where the team prayed for the childrens family, or for any other situation, from the prayer requests in the box.  All prayers are handled in complete confidence.

Then it was time for the meal, which this month was Yummy  Tomato Pasta Bake and Crusty Bread, followed by  Sponge and toffee Sauce with Stewed Apples.

Finally there was time to go into the garden and build snowmen and have some more fun.

Next Messy Church is on Sunday 3rd February, and again on Sunday 3rd March.

A great time for families who would not normally come to church but do want to learn about God and hear about the life and work of Jesus.
