Praise Service Sunday 19 August 2012

The Praise Band from Left to Right:
Joan Cape (vocals),  Sam McDonald (drums), Neil Cape (bass guitar),  Carolyn Toms (Guitar and vocals),Stephen Elson (Guitar) and Graham McDonald (piano).

The evening of Sunday 19th August continued the summer celebration theme of the day with another joint Penicuik churches praise service, building on the event held in July. Joan Cape led the service, and provided vocals in the group, while husband Neil played bass guitar for the praise team. Joining Neil were Carolyn Toms and Stephen Elson on guitar and vocals, Graham McDonald on piano, and Graham’s son Sam McDonald on drums.

Following two hymns to open the service Joan introduced the theme for the evening, Messy Church, together with a video clip where founder Lucy Moore explained how it all started. Katrina McDonald then told us how she got involved in setting up Messy Church in Penicuik, and how it is non denominational, so that anyone can come
along and be involved, and how it is developing.

After singing “Gonna Trust in God”, Alison Cole from St. James the Less told us what being involved with Messy Church means, and how people of the various churches in Penicuik can help with the activities, crafts, bible stories, and the meal that forms an important part of each gathering.

Ann and Andrew Dunsire then took time to tell the children of their trip to Estonia and the gifts and messages they took from the children of Penicuik. Ann had with her a large box with gifts from Estonia for the children of Penicuik. Opened later, the box, labelled “With Love from Russia” contained small sculptured models made during the summer camp. You can read about Ann and Andrew’s trip to Camp Gideon here

Following the singing of “Here I am” the congregation and children spent some prayer time together, some creating messages to hang on the cross and the tree at setup at the front of the church.

The Praise band led more songs before we finished and enjoyed some light refreshments in the church.

Everyone enjoyed their evening, which hopefully we can repeat sometime later in the year.
